World Community for Christian Meditation Worthing Group invites newcomers There is a growing interest worldwide in meditation. Within the Christian Church has been practised from the earliest days although until recently it has been taught only within religious communities. The Benedictine monk, John Main (died 1982) rediscovered this tradition and made it available to all. His teaching lives on through his many books and recorded talks and through the World Community for Christian Meditation which is now headed by John Main's successor and fellow Benedictine Laurence Freeman, who spoke in Worthing in February 1996, following which our small group was set up. We meet at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church Hall, left of the presbytery in North Road, Lancing every Thursday. The meeting begins at 7.30pm sharp. There is a recorded talk, usually from John Main or Laurence Freeman, of about 20 minutes. This is followed by a period of silence of about 25 minutes. We then have a cup of tea or coffee and the opportunity for questions and discussion and leave by about 9pm. We invite donations to cover expenses (£1 per head suggested). The use of the mantra does not exclude other forms of prayer. It is, however, proving to be of enormous help to many people throughout the world. We welcome newcomers. No previous knowledge or experience of meditation is necessary. Just come along and explore with us this Christian tradition given new life and now open to lay people through John Main's visionary teaching.
